Fairfield EMS ambulance subscription membership is not an insurance policy or supplement.

The objective is to provide Fairfield and the citizens of Freestone County with a reliable ambulance service that provides a minimal response time and trained personnel. Advantages to being a subscriber are: Emergency ambulance transport for 12 months, as often as it is medically necessary to the nearest medical facility and free use of supplies and procedures not covered by insurance for transport to the nearest facility. A family membership includes husband, wife, and children up to 18 years of age (25 years of age if a college student) living in the same residence.

Commonly asked questions and answers.

Why should I join the EMS membership program?

Consider the difference between the cost of a membership and a typical emergency ambulance bill of $500-$1500. Your annual membership fee basically prepays any deductible or other portion of the ambulance charges that would not be covered by insurance or Medicare. Most insurance’s including Medicare will not cover the full amount of an ambulance bill, leaving you responsible for the remaining charges.

What if I am on Medicare or fixed income?

The membership program is especially important for persons on a fixed income, who otherwise might have to absorb the portion of the ambulance fee not covered by Medicare or private insurance. Individuals with Medicare supplement policies or standard health insurance also should know that such polices often pay only a portion of an ambulance bill, leaving you responsible for deductibles and the remaining charges.

What is Medically Necessary mean?

It is defined as specific need of ambulance transportation to or from a healthcare facility (hospital, nursing home) within the Fairfield EMS service area where use of alternative forms of transportation (Wheelchair transports, private car, taxi) would be medically inappropriate given the patient’s condition. Fairfield EMS reserves the right to require physician certification of medical necessity for all non-emergency transports. If abuse is found to exist, Fairfield EMS reserves the right to terminate membership.

What is the difference between Basic (BLS) and Advanced (ALS) life support?

Basic Life Support (BLS) transports those not requiring special skills such as Intravenous lines (IV), cardiac monitoring, drug administration, etc. from the attendant. The transports that require such special skills from the attendant are considered Advanced Life Support (ALS).
